Eat Black Foods For Better Health!
February is black history month. You can celebrate by learning
about an athlete, politician, Tuskegee airman, or celebrity.
Or you can eat a black food. What is a black food you ask?
Well, it doesn't have anything to Africa or black culture,
it's actually a food that's black in color, and it can prevent cancer,
trim your waist or build strong bones.
Look below for the list of health-building black foods and
start getting healthy immediately.
The Black Foods:
1) Eggplant-
Black or purple, it's the skin we're talking about.
Eating the skin of the eggplant can keep Alzheimer's
and heart disease at bay. How? Compounds in the skin
ward off damage to brain cell membranes. And that's
Important since membranes protects the cell from harmful
free radicals. The free radicals that damage the brain and
heart. Important tip: Make the eggplant in the healthiest
way possible. Skip the 3 types of meats and 4 cheeses.
If you cook it with meat and cheese, Alzhiemer's and
heart disease aren't the only two of the health problems,
you'll have to worry about.
2) Black Rice-
Brown and White are the 2 types of rice popular with most people,
but black is gaining in popularity. And that's a good thing, beacause
it may actually be healthier. Black rice contains anthocyanins,
which are linked to a decreased risk of heart disease and blocks
breast cancer cells. It also helps improves short-term memory.
Find it at Asian supermarkets. Let it soak in water for 30 to 60
mins. before cooking. Soaking releases more nutrients.
3) Blackberries-
They take a backseat to blueberries. But they also improve memory
and can help women give birth to twins or triplets and stop
embarrassing gas attacks.
4) Dried Plums-
Okay, prunes. If bone loss is a concern, eat more prunes.
Dried plums are rich in polyphenols that stimulate the cells
that produce bones. Another benefit: They're a natural and
safer laxative. Chop up a few prunes and add to ground
hamburger or turkey. They'll improve the taste and your
health.
5) Pumpernickle Bread-
Struggling with hunger pangs in the New Year?
Throw out the white bread and switch to the darker
pumpernickle. Give credit to the fiber in the bread,
which shuts down hunger as effectively as an
unsafe diet pill.
6) Black Beans-
Popular in the Hispanic culture and for good reason,
they reduce your risk of heart disease and colon cancer.
The beans destroy the polyps that lead to cancer.
Buy the canned variety and rinse a few times or
buy them fresh and soak them overnight. This will
prevent the gas attacks that are sure to follow.
7) Black Pepper-
End indigestion with black pepper.
Too little stomach acid causes indigestion and too little
stomach acid can't break down the food properly.
Black pepper to the rescue-it stimulates taste buds, telling
your stomach to increase acid production.
8) Black Pasta-
Yes, black pasta. It's also a food that'll protect the breasts.
It contains antioxidants that stop breast cancer cells
from spreading and blocks new tumor growth.
That's It- 8 foods to eat not only in February, but yr. round.
Good Luck!
